JULIA LENNON's HOUSE IN LIVERPOOL IS DUE TO BE AUCTIONED IN MARCH

Julia Lennon's House on Blomfield Road in Springwood, Liverpool, is due to be auctioned in March with a guide price of £120,000

The former home of John’s mum, dubbed the “House of Sin” by his aunt, is up for auction.
The semi-detached home on Blomfield Road, in Allerton’s Springwood estate, was where Lennon’s mum Julia lived when he was a teenager and is due to go under the hammer at Liverpool Town Hall on March 31.
The Beatle’s sisters Julia and Jackie lived in the three-bedroom council house with his mum and her new partner John ‘Bobby’ Dykins.
Lennon lived with his aunt Mimi in nearby Menlove Avenue and was a frequent visitor to the house, where he would often stay over.
In her book, his sister Julia Baird said Mimi would refer to her own house as the “House of Correction”, but would refer to John’s mum’s home as the “House of Sin”.
The three-bedroom home has been given a guide price of £120,000, but auctioneers Venmore are hoping it might attract the interest of investors with an interest in the Fab Four.
Chief executive of Venmore, Rob Farnham, said normally properties in the area fetched in the region of £115,000.
He said: “It’s a unique property and Beatles houses always attract lots of interest from around the world. It has the potential to make money but also to provide a great home.”
The house is now a stop off point on the Beatles Tour.
It was there that on July 15, 1958, a 17-year-old Lennon answered the door to a policeman who informed him his mum had been killed in a road accident.
Afterwards, Lennon said: “It was awful, like some dreadful film where they ask you if you’re the victim’s son and all that. Well, I was, and I can tell you it was absolutely the worst night of my entire life.”
It is thought the Imagine singer had been due to spend the summer holidays at the house with his mum but she died before he could move in.
The star, who died in 1980, last visited the home in 1970 when he took wife Yoko Ono on a visit to his old Liverpool haunts.
The couple drove up to the house in their white Rolls Royce and were shown around.
Mr Farnham said the house, which has had one owner since the Lennon family, had remained largely unchanged since the singer’s teenage years.
He said: “There’s a new porch and new front door but a lot of the house is likely to be as it was when John Lennon lived here.”
