The visual side of classic rock will be showcased at the The Hamilton Mall for Valentine's Day Weekend with a rare display of artwork created by classic rock stars, and famous rock photographers, plus concert poster art and gold records at the KOOL 98.3 & 103.7 WMGM ROCK ART SHOW & SALE, Friday, Feb. 13 through Sunday, Feb. 15. Show hours are Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
As a special added attraction, RON CAMPBELL, director of the legendary Saturday morning Beatles Cartoon series that aired on ABC from September 25, 1965 through April 20, 1969, and animator on the Beatles film Yellow Submarine, will make a rare personal appearance at the Rock Art Show throughout the entire weekend. In honor of Valentine's Day, Ron will personalize a special All You Need is Love painting based on the film Yellow Submarine with a couples name and/or wedding date. In his book, Up Periscope, Yellow Submarine Producer Al Brodax gives Ron Campbell much of the credit for saving the movie and tying it all together at the last minute He also will have many of his original Beatles paintings on sale created especially for this show, and give a live demonstration of his painting.
In addition to his Beatles past, Ron has been involved with some of pop culture's most beloved cartoons, including Scooby Doo, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, the Smurfs, Winnie the Pooh, Rugrats, Ed, Edd & Eddy, George of the Jungle, Goof Troop, Krazy Kat, Captain Caveman, and dozens more.
And to further set the mood on Valentine's Day, free flowers will be given to the first all ladies who show up at the Customer Service center, while supplies last.
The KOOL 98.3 & 103.7 WMGM ROCK ART SHOW & SALE showcases an amazing collection of art and photographs including Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Ron Wood, Paul McCartney, Jerry Garcia, The Who, Bob Dylan, Santana, The Doors, Aerosmith, The Police, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, Ringo Starr, U2 and much more.
One of the cool Valentine's Day highlights at the show will be a reproduction of the famous "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" poster. John Lennon had the original circus poster in his music room while working on songs for the Beatles upcoming album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. John composed the lyrics to the song "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" directly from that poster. The actual date of the Mr. Kite circus as featured on the poster – February 14, 1843 – 172 years to the day of the KOOL 98.3 & 103.7 WMGM ROCK ART SHOW & SALE.
Other highlights of the Rock Art Show include hand signed drum heads from Peter Criss (KISS), Micky Dolenz, Ringo Starr and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Artimus Pyle; two never-before-published photographs of Bon Jovi taken at The Warehouse Recording studio in Philadelphia during the recording of 7800 Fahrenheit album in 1985, and a newly discovered panoramic photo of the Allman Brothers, taken during the first few days of their formation by Rolling Stone Magazine first chief photographer Baron Wolman.
